MehrZi helps you learn English from real people's stories. This page explains, in plain words, what we keep about you, why, for how long, and how to make us change or delete it. We don't sell your data, show ads or use tracking cookies.
Who is responsible
MiPlat Labs, Tabbertsse 6, 12459 Berlin, Germany. Email: [email protected]. Write to us about anything on this page.
What we keep and why
- Your account: when you sign in with Google, we get your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We need them to give you an account and keep your progress. (Legal basis: providing the service you asked for, GDPR Art. 6(1)(b).)
- Your progress: XP, level, streak, the words you know and when to review them, stars and game results. Without them, MehrZi can't work. (Art. 6(1)(b).)
- About you (optional): your native language, why you're learning and your English level, if you tell us. We use them to choose and explain stories for you. (Art. 6(1)(b); you can leave them empty or change them on your profile.)
- Your voice recordings: only if you agree, when you first record a line in Shadow or read a story in its challenge. Only you can listen to them (not the story's creator, nor other learners). Each recording is turned into text by speech recognition on our own server (it isn't sent to anyone else) and compared with the line to give you a score. The audio is deleted after 30 days; the scores and the recognised words stay as part of your progress. (Legal basis: your consent, Art. 6(1)(a), which you can withdraw at any time.)
- Cookies: one cookie keeps you signed in, and a short-lived one protects the Google sign-in. Both are needed for MehrZi to work; we use no others.
- Server logs: like any website, our server notes requests (time, address, page) to keep MehrZi running and safe. (Legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f).)
Who else handles data
- Google, for signing in. Google's own privacy policy applies to your Google account.
- Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany, which runs our server, under a data processing agreement.
- Stories are translated into learners' languages by language models on computers we run ourselves. They get only the stories' text, never anything about you; your native language only decides which languages we translate into.
Nobody else gets your data, unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Your account and progress stay until you delete your account. Recordings' audio is deleted after 30 days. When you delete your account, everything about you is deleted straight away.
Your rights
- Delete your recordings or withdraw your consent for recordings (which deletes them too): on your profile.
- Delete your account and everything about you: on your profile.
- See, correct or get a copy of your data, or object to how we use it: write to [email protected]. We answer within a month.
- Complain to a data protection authority, for example the one where you live.
Children
MehrZi is for people aged 16 or over. Younger learners need a parent's or guardian's permission.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies.
